The Macaronesian KBA Geoportal was developed in the context of the BEST initiative by the Macaronesian Hub.

It is provided as a tool for the involvement of stakeholders in the definition of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) in the Azores, Canary Islands and Madeira.

For the region of Macaronesia, it congregates publicly available georeferenced information on the occurrence of global and endemic species that have been classified as critically endangered (CR), endangered (EN) or vulnerable (VU) in the IUCN Global Red List or in regional/national red lists that follow IUCN criteria (access species list). Additionally it provides cartographical information on areas with some type of protection status.
